The Craft

Nothing stamped.
Nothing coated.
Nothing disposable.

Every piece in the Ember range is forged to order in small batches. We work with one blacksmith in Oregon and one foundry in Pennsylvania. Lead time is 3–5 weeks. It's worth it.

3/8″ Steel Bar

Solid bar stock, not tube. Forged flat, not stamped.

Grey Cast Iron

High-carbon, slow-poured. Holds heat longer than any coated pan.

Linseed Seasoning

First coat applied at 280°C. Ships ready to cook on.

High-Carbon Steel

Japanese flat-blade skewers. Hammered finish, never slips.

The grate arrived oiled and heavier than I expected. Sat it over my fire pit on a Tuesday evening and cooked a whole chicken. The thing didn't move. It's going to outlive me.

Took the Dutch oven on a four-day overland trip through Utah. Made a lamb shoulder braise on night two. My truck partner refused to speak for ten minutes after the first bite.

I've been building a permanent basecamp kitchen at my cabin in Vermont for two years. The Ember grate is the only piece I didn't have to compromise on. Everything else was a substitute.

The skewers are the detail that gets me every time. Flat blade means the meat doesn't spin. Hammered surface means the fat catches. I've used them every weekend since April.

The packaging alone. I opened the box and just sat with it for a minute before I even touched the grate. The tissue, the stamp, the smell of the oil. It felt like it cost more than it did.
